I will explain each of the speakers and who they are best suited to depending on your situation and tonal choices. This list is not in any particular order. If you are new to choosing a guitar speaker I can highly suggest reading my article covering what you need to know before changing speakers. This list will be a mix of “classic” Vox tones and “alternative” tones depending on your taste. For those that own a 1×12 Vox AC30, this list can still apply to you.Įach of the stock speakers is very good at replicating the classic Vox sound. The Vox AC30 comes in a few different stock speaker configurations including Alnico Blue and Greenback options. This list applies to the 1×12 combo version of the amplifier only. This is a list of the 7 best speakers for a Vox AC30 (2×12) guitar amplifier. Really classy and substantial. The 7 Best Speakers for a Vox AC30 Amplifier Haven't heard the Creamback's yet but Celestion always delivers what they say in their marketing.Īnd as Rolsen said, Gibby style buckers are just so wonderfully Pagey through a Vox with Celestions it freaks me out sometimes how fantastic the tone is when the guitar is just plugged straight into the amp. With a Vox amp I don't think you can go wrong with Celestion's. When I roll in NOS RCA's for a silky sort of hi-fi quality, you hear it.

When I roll in a pair of Mullards for that "wooly" feel, you hear it. They also breakup nicely when I need them to, very smoothly IMO. My '67 Harmony Meteor sounds really beefy in the lows with the Celestions, the right amount of mud in the low-mids and offer a nice bite in the upper mids and high's when I crank the volume. But my Vox cambridge twin is loaded with Celestion Bulldogs and they handle a variety of voicings really well, from Strat to Archtop. I'm a fan of Eminence speakers too and love them in Fender amps for tight bottom end and chimey high's on a Strat or Tele. With my les paul equipped with SD Seth Lover PAFs through my vox setup, it always sounds very 'zep-like' to me. If you really want to break the bank, get a Celestion Alnico Gold.

Weber is more expensive, and the Celestion Alnico Blue even more. The best bang for buck is the Eminence Red Fang alnico. Lotsa talk about keeping one Wharfdale in there and complementing it with an alnico of some sort. Here's what I have (I've got an AC30 cc head) in my 2x12 Avatar cab: Weber Alnico Blue Dog and Celestion G12H30. Rolsen wrote:You should check out for volumes of discussion on this very topic.
